Join Us for U8-10 Spring '25 YDP Tryouts

Tryout Pre-Registration OPEN, 2015-2018 players of all abilities welcome!

Tryouts for the Spring YDP Season for 2018-2015 players will be held Wednesday, January 22nd (6-7pm) & Monday, January 27th (6-7pm) at Buckman Field (426 NE 12th St. Portland, OR 97232).

  • Pre-Registration Deadline: January 16th @11:59pm

  • Cost: $25 pre-registration, $35 late registration (season fees due following tryouts)

Your player's tryout includes two days of observation and we encourage those who are available to attend both days. If you have a previous commitment or conflict, please email victoria@pcusc.org and we can make a note for our coaching staff.

How does the tryout process work?

  • Pre-registered players will check-in by picking up their name tag inside PCU's club-house (NW corner of Buckman Field) 15 minutes before each session.

  • Our coaches will get to know your player's focus, listening skills and ability to participate as part of a team through fun activities and games.

  • In general, players regardless of technical skills will be offered a spot on a team. This is a great opportunity to get your child active and engaged with other player's their age!

  • Play-Up Policy: Teams in this program are divided by birth year (not grade). Players may tryout to play-up an age-group, but must also tryout in their actual age-group (they will attend one of each session). The player must rank in the top 11 players of the older age-group in order to be considered to be rostered that age-group. If your player intends to tryout for an age-group higher than their birth year, please email victoria@pcusc.org.

What happens after tryouts?

  • If your player is offered a spot on a team, you will receive a club invitation from SportsConnect within 24 hours of your player's second tryout date.

  • Families have 48 hours from the time invites are sent to accept/decline.

  • A $295 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your player's roster spot during registration. The remaining balance of $105 is due by 3/10 if you select a payment plan during check-out. Financial aid is available for qualifying families and can cover up to 50% of player's season fees. Please email victoria@pcusc.org to apply.

  • Players who have registered for the season will start training Wednesday, January 29th. Training sessions are M/W, 6-7pm at Buckman Field through May 1. Coaches will created game-day rosters and players will participate in OYSA’s 4v4 or 7v7 Development League on Sundays, March-April at Delta Park or Portland Christian HS. Official game schedule released by the league in late-February.

Day-of Tryout Instructions

Please see below for what to bring, how to check-in and other helpful tips to keep in mind during tryouts.

Tip #1: View Parking & Directions

  • Directions: All tryouts are held at Buckman Field Complex (300 NE 12th Ave, Portland).

  • Parking: Please give yourself enough time to find a spot, walk to the field and complete check-in. There is only street parking available at this facility.

Tip #2: Come Prepared

We ask that players do not wear PCU or other club's uniforms to tryouts. Please bring a ball (with players name + phone number, legible in sharpie), cleats, shinguards and water bottle. The lost & found is located in our club-house if something is misplaced during tryouts.

Tip #3: Arrive 10-15 Minutes Early to Check-In

Families are welcome to accompany their player to their field but are permitted to watch tryouts from outside the track only (not on the turf please).

Tip #4: During Warm-Ups, Put Yourself Out There

During warm-ups, introduce yourself, or ask someone to pass or juggle.

Tip #5: Be Vocal, Be Positive

Communicate during the game play, tell a teammate "nice pass, good tackle," etc.

Tip #6: Relax, it's Okay to Make Mistakes!

You will make mistakes, everyone does, it's okay to make mistakes! Showing how you respond to those mistakes is what matters more.

Tip #7: Listen, But Don't be Afraid to Ask Questions.

Most importantly, remember, have fun!

Tip #8: See Information Below About How to Know if Your Player Makes a Team

Thank you again for joining us for tryouts!

How will my player know if they've made a team?

Players who are offered spots will receive the official club invitation via email from SportsConnect (to the email used to register for tryouts) within 48 hours of their tryout, letting them know if they've made a team. Families have 48 hours from the time the invitation is sent to accept their spot and make their first payment.

Players are not committed on a roster until they accept their spot via the offer email and make their first payment. Players are not permitted to attend training until they have officially accepted their spot.

Coaches will be in contact with accepted players via email within a few days of their tryout with more information, including the age-group's annual calendar and TeamSnap App invitation.
