Jake Flatt
PCU Teams: 2013 Boys & 2009 Boys Assistant Coach
Current/former playing position: I primarily played as an outside back- RB to be more specific.
Premier League team: Chelsea! Dider Drogba was my favorite player growing up.
As a PCU-alumni, what's a memorable moment from your time as a player?
My most memorable moments at PCU (as a formal player) would have to come from the out-of-state showcase tournaments. Being able to travel with your entire team gave us all a small taste of the daily routines and lifestyle professional players go through. In addition, those trips helped the team’s chemistry and allowed us to form strong relationships with one another.
Why do you love PCU as a coach? What makes PCU different in your eyes than other clubs?
I love PCU as a coach because of all the fun events and tournaments we get to be a part of and because of the facilities at our disposal. Having the clubhouse at Buckman has been huge! As a formal PCU player, it’s been fun to see the club grow into what it is today.
Do you have any hobbies outside of PCU? What's something most people wouldn't know about you?
Outside of coaching, I enjoy other outdoor activities such as hiking and camping. I also play a lot of video games when the weather is poor. A lot of people might not know I have a cat named Moose!
What's one resource you would recommend to all competitive soccer players (video, book, social media account, podcast, etc)?
I’m a visual learner. I highly recommend everyone to follow a professional team (like Chelsea!) and to watch as much as you can. Examine how the players in your position(s) are playing, take notes if it helps! When and where they take certain touches, speed of play, technique and body mechanics- things to look out for! I also believe you learn a lot more from watching full matches rather than a 4-min highlight reels. Watch how the pros manage an entire 90+ minute game.
